“Mardi Gras with kids! Really?” This was the reaction I got from most people when I told them I was taking my kids to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
The look that came with it made me start to worry that maybe they knew something more than I did.
But come on, I was going with another family. One of them was raised in New Orleans and she seems pretty down to earth and normal to me. It is not as if I planned to take my kids down Bourbon street after the sun went down.
Really, how bad could it be?
Bad? Not at all.
In fact, the Mardi Gras I saw was very family oriented, with kids being the center of attention! Parents lovingly created special ladders for their kids to sit on and enjoy the parade. Everyone wore fun hats, clothes or hair pieces to celebrate and the locals I met were very friendly and easy to talk to.
It was a giant, family oriented street party, and we’re glad we had a chance to participate.
Would I do it again with kids? Absolutely!
